Service Learning, Drama, and Social Change: A University Literature Class Takes on Bullying in Middle School

Abstract
A university service learning course in drama set out to make a difference in the lives of inner-city youth while
learning about dramatic literature. The course partnered with a local middle school to create short plays on the
theme of bullying. This article documents the impact of service learning on the academic learning of the
university students and their effectiveness in changing attitudes towards violence at the middle school.
